Cabin John Village lost its largest restaurant in August. Colony Grill closed its 4,800-square-foot room at 11325 Seven Locks Road, which seated about 175 people across the dining room, bar and patio. The tenants that opened this year and the ones still listed as "Coming Soon" have something in common. A visit to any of them takes minutes. A 30-minute facial, a cup of Italian ice, a juice, a kids' art class, a men's grooming appointment. Meanwhile the one big new sit-down restaurant in Potomac this fall is being built a few miles away at 10120 River Road.
That's the shape of the center going into October 2026. Here's how it got there and what you can actually walk into this month.
Colony Grill came to Cabin John Village in June 2023. It was the Stamford, Connecticut, pizza chain's first investment in Maryland and stayed its only Maryland location. It ran for a little more than three years. MoCoShow reported the closure on August 25 and quoted the recorded message on the restaurant's phone line:
"The lease at this location is not being extended and the restaurant is now closed."
Callers are pointed to the Arlington location at 2800 Clarendon Blvd. That's the closest place left for the thin-crust bar pies with hot oil. The Potomac room also had a "Wall of Heroes" with photos of military veterans and first responders, a tradition that goes back to the original location's World War II history.
No replacement tenant for the space had been announced as of early October. The closure report doesn't name one, and the center's own listings don't show one either. For now, the biggest single dining room in the center is an open question.
Two new tenants are confirmed open. Neither is a full-service restaurant.
Carmen's Italian Ice & More was open by early June at 11325 Seven Locks Road, Suite 113. MoCoShow described it as the chain's fourth full-service shop and named co-owners Jerry Walters, Brad Riddle and Ajay Jalloh. Store Reporter places it next to Colony Grill's former space, in a storefront that long ago held Momo Taro Sushi Express. So the ice shop sits right beside the empty dining room. Carmen's opened about three months before its neighbor closed.
Glowbar opened in July with a community day planned for Saturday, July 18, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. MoCoShow called it the brand's first Maryland location. The facial spa runs 30-minute treatments, including masks, chemical peels and LED light therapy, with walk-in appointments and monthly memberships. Store Reporter noted that Glowbar filled one of the last open spaces in the center's central corridor.
Glowbar's model is a half-hour appointment, and so far it's the clearest example of what the center has been signing this year.
Three more businesses have been announced for Cabin John Village since late 2025. As of the center's late-September listings, none had opened, and two have missed the summer targets they gave earlier in the year.
| Business | Space | Earlier target | Status in late September 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Purée Juice Bar | Former Dov & Company, between ReWild and Jurisdiction, next to Giant | Summer 2026 | Coming Soon, no date |
| Red Panda Art Studio | Second location | Summer 2026 | Coming Soon, aiming for mid-October |
| Hammer & Nails | Former Indigo Physiotherapy, next to Playa Bowls | No date given | Coming Soon, date TBD |
Purée takes over the space Dov & Company left when the gift shop moved to Virginia after the 2025 holidays. The May announcement said "this summer." The center's listing and Purée's own homepage still say Coming Soon, and neither gives a date.
Red Panda Art Studio is opening a second location here for children's art classes and camps. The April announcement also said summer. The studio's website now says it's aiming for mid-October and is holding back the exact day. Of the three, this one has the most specific target right now. It's still a target, though, not an opening date.
Hammer & Nails, which Store Reporter describes as a men's "grooming lounge," is going into the former Indigo Physiotherapy space next to Playa Bowls. Store Reporter's July 23 update said the opening date was still TBD, and the center's listing hasn't changed since.
Add these three to Carmen's and Glowbar and you have five 2026 arrivals: a juice bar, a kids' studio, a grooming lounge, a facial spa and an Italian ice shop. None is a full-service dining room on the scale of the space that closed in August.
The biggest new restaurant project in Potomac this fall is on River Road, not Seven Locks Road. Maurizio's is going into 10120 River Road in Potomac Village, the former home of Renato's, which closed in September 2024.
Eater DC put it on its list of the most anticipated D.C.-area openings for fall 2026. The restaurant comes from Ted Xenohristos, co-founder and owner of Cava, and Eater calls it the team's sixth full-service project. Executive chef Aris Tsekouras is planning rosemary focaccia, fritto misto, linguine and clams, chicken Parmesan and grilled branzino, along with a dedicated Negroni bar menu. The redesign of the old Renato's room uses terracotta floors, brass details and reclaimed wood beams. The same group runs Bouboulina, Julii and Melina at Pike & Rose in Rockville.
When the restaurant was announced in May, Xenohristos said:
"Opening our next restaurant in the Village is incredibly meaningful to us."
The timeline has moved, though. Bethesda Today's May story projected July or August. Store Reporter said "this fall" in July. In September, MoCoShow reported a fall debut with no exact date, and the restaurant's own site still says Coming Soon. Until a date is posted, it's best to treat Maurizio's as a project you can expect this season, not a place you can book tonight.
The center's own calendar has a few fixed dates in October. All of them are open-air events on the property.
Red Panda's mid-October target falls between the Fall Seasonal Market and Halloween on the Green. If the studio hits it, the center could have a new kids' art space open in the same week as its biggest family event of the month.
The tenant mix at Cabin John Village isn't settled yet. Three storefronts are waiting to open, and the 4,800-square-foot former Colony Grill space has no announced tenant. Whatever signs that lease will tell you more about the center than any single opening this year. It's the only remaining space in these listings large enough for a full dining room, and in early October it's still empty.
